Valentine's Values - Win Free Roses

Alert: Ladies, forward this message immediately to your husband or significant other!

Do you have your Valentine's Day plans ready? I think it's important to set aside some time to celebrate with the people you love, and it doesn't always mean spending lots of money! If you're like my husband and me, we're looking for ways to celebrate this Valentines' Day with as little cost as possible.

-----------------------------------------------

First, I have a special giveaway for HC Mom Squad readers.

The Floral Boutique is located at 3579 Hwy 321 S, between Boone and Blowing Rock. It's owned by local couple Robert and Glenda Cobb. I talked to Glenda today, and she agreed to offer a giveaway!

One HC Mom Squad reader will win 3 free roses for Valentine's Day! All you have to do is leave a comment on this post telling us your favorite color rose. As always subscribers get an extra entry! If you're a subscriber, leave 2 comments! I'll draw at random on Wednesday night, and announce the winner on Thursday! (See bottom for instructions)

The Valentine's Day price for 1 dozen roses at The Floral Boutique is $25.00
The regular price for 1 dozen roses is $15.00

Here are some ways to make your flowers last longer:
  • Fill the vase 3/4 full with fresh room temperature water. Use a clean vase to avoid bacteria growth.
  • Add floral preservative to the vase as directed on the package.
  • Remove any leaves that will be under the water in the vase.
  • Arrange the flowers, then leave them in a cool dark room for a couple of hours, to allow them to settle into their new home.
  • Always display your floral arrangement in a cool spot (65-72 degrees F)
  • If the water becomes cloudy, replace it entirely.
  • If possible, re-cut stems every three days with the stem under water.
----------------------------------------

My friend Julie alerted me to a Valentine's Dinner Special at Ruby Tuesday. You get dinner for two for $34.99. For your main dishes, you can each choose from: New Orleans Seafood, Parmesan Shrimp Pasta, 9 oz. Sirloin, Chicken Fresco, or Bistro BBQ Chicken, plus:
  • 1 appetizer of your choice
  • 2 one-trip salads
  • dessert
----------------------------------------

So there you go! The perfect date night! Forward this message to your husband or significant other, or print it out, and conveniently leave it taped to the TV!

Here's how to enter the giveaway:
  • Leave a comment on this post, telling us your favorite color rose. If you are a subscriber, leave 2 comments for an extra entry!
  • Check back on Thursday morning to see if you won.
  • Be sure to leave a valid email address with your comment, so I can contact you. There are three non-spam ways to do this.
  1. Sign in with a Google Account. Check "share my profile," and "show my email address." If you leave your comment with your Google account, your email address is sent to me confidentially with your comment.
  2. Write out the (at) and (dot).
  3. If it is a common domain, replace vowels with asterisks [ex. singforhim94 (at) Y*h** (dot) com]

The Best Deal Of the Week!

I went to Harris Teeter last night, and found their whole fryer chickens on sale for $.49 /lb! Anytime I can get a 5 pound chicken for $2.50, I'm stocking up! Hurry, though, it's only good till closing time on Tuesday.

Aren't sure how to cook a whole chicken? Try these recipes:

Chicken and Dumplings

Chicken Noodle Soup From Scratch

Easy Roasted Chicken
  • 1 whole fryer chicken, giblets removed
  • 3 TBSP salt (I use kosher salt)
  • 2 tsp pepper
  • 1 TBSP garlic powder
  • 4 TBSP Italian Seasoning (or any flavor you like, ie: Cajun, Blackened, Jerk, etc)
  • a few TBSP olive oil
1. Mix together the salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning.
2. After rinsing the inside of the chicken, salt the cavity a little.
3. With two fingers, loosen the skin from the breasts, and thighs of the chicken, and anyplace else you can get your fingers underneath.
4. Rub seasoning between the skin and the meat. Rub Olive Oil on the outside of the skin.
5. Place in a roasting pan with a rack. If you don't have a roasting pan, use any baking dish with carrots layered on the bottom for the "rack."
6. Place in the oven and cook according to the chart below, until a meat thermometer read 180 to 185 degrees.

2-1/2 to 3 lbs: 375 degrees for 1 to 1-1/4 hours
3-1/2 to 4 lbs: 375 degrees for 1-1/4 to 1-3/4 hours
4-1/2 to 5 lbs: 375 degrees for 1-1/2 to 2 hours
5 to 6 lbs: 325 degrees for 1-3/4 to 2-1/2 hours

7. Use the leftovers in casseroles, soups, chicken salad, enchiladas, chicken tacos, the possibilities are endless. You can also freeze the leftovers for convenient cooked chicken any time you need it!

How do you like to cook a whole chicken?

Are You "Suddenly Showing?"

Have you ever heard anyone say, "There is really nowhere to get great maternity and nursing clothes in Boone!"? I have , too. And I know I said it when I was pregnant with my kids.

Well, now, there
is an awesome maternity/nursing shop right here in Boone. Suddenly Showing is a boutique run by a local mom, in the New Market Center area.

Turn on 194 at the light near Lowe's Foods, then take your first right onto Perkinsville Road. Turn Right again on Tarheel Lane, after Mike's Inland Seafood, and Suddenly Showing is on the left.

Suddenly Showing has some classic pieces, including casual, business, and dressy attire. There are even some things I'd wear, even though I'm not pregnant! That empire waist look is totally in style, right?

Anyway, whether you're pregnant or not, you should stop in and see what they've got! And they are offering 10% off for Mom Squad Readers. Just mention that you heard it here!

And now a question for YOU! What was the one piece of maternity clothing you could not do without?

Special Savings for Moms of Multiples

My SuperMom friend Tiffany, (she really is incredible) Gave me the low down on some great savings for moms of multiples. You have to have a special gift to be a mom of multiples, and you definitely need some bargains, too!
  • OshKosh B'Gosh offers the Multiplicity Club. The Club Card, available at our OshKosh B'Gosh retail stores, offers a 10% discount off your purchases for the multiples only. It is accepted ONLY in OshKosh stores (not stores that merely carry their brand) and is for parents only. It can be used in conjunction with other coupons and discounts.
  • If you contact Preschoolians through their website, they will send you a special discount code if you have multiples. The discount is 40% and they require documentation before they give you the code but it's a simple process.
Let me know if you hear of any other "Multiples" bargains, and I'll update this post.

For us singletons, I just saw that Preschoolians is offering 20% off when you design your own shoe. I hadn't heard of this company before, and they look awesome.
