Freebie Friday: Gab-To-Go from Black Bear Books

This week we have a great offer from Black Bear Books in Boone. My seven-year-old daughter LOVES quizzing people. Once we got Shrek quiz cards from some Kid's Meal. Every time we were in the car, we were forced to answer the same questions over and over... and pretend we hadn't heard them before.

Black Bear Books is giving away a game, called Gab-To-Go that is perfect for just this dilemma! It's a simple, travel-friendly game of clever questions designed to help folks unplug from their fast-paced lives and connect with the people that matter most. It has no board, or little pieces that can get lost. You can play it in the car, in the kitchen while you're getting dinner ready, waiting for your food at a restaurant, anywhere!

And personally, I am banning the in-car DVD player this summer , and making our time in the car "quality time." What about you?

To enter this giveaway, simply leave a comment on this post! If you're a subscriber, you get an extra chance! To subscribe to receive email updates, click on the link at the top right of the page!

The contest will be open through Sunday Night, and the winner will be announced on Monday Morning.

Black Bear Books is located on Blowing Rock Road/321 between Walgreens and Chick-Fil-A. They have a kids' story time every Sunday at 3 pm. You can have a cup of coffee, bring your laptop and connect with free WiFi, or just chat while your kids are being entertained.

Chick-Fil-A Winner

Well, we had a little glitch on Friday with the switch to the new site. Some of you saw the new site, and left comments there, and some of you saw the old one, and left comments there. All comments WERE recorded, however. We are working on the problems, and we'll try again next week for the upgrade.

There were a total of 65 comments. So since there were comments on both sites, I put ALL the names in a bowl, (subscribers twice) and chose one. I made sure all the papers were the same size, and that none of them were folded differently. Future giveaways will be chosen by random.org integer generator.

And the winner is: Shelly!

Have fun on your picnic, and thanks to Chick-Fil-A for offering this incredible prize.

Freebie Friday: Cherokee Cove and Kyani Sunrise

Cherokee Cove is a breath-takingly beautiful Family Campground and Retreat Center, located just over the Tennessee line. Many of you may remember the facilitators of Cherokee Cove, Sam and Stu Stevens, from the incredible restaurant they used to own, Sam and Stu's. And if you've eaten there, you know that Stu is an accomplished chef.

Sam is also very knowledgeable about nutrition and health, and she recently spoke to our MOPS group. I decided to try a product she believes very strongly about, Kyani Sunrise Alaskan Blueberry juice. I admit I've always been a skeptic about these things, but I have begun to notice a difference in my energy level , and my ability to focus mentally, throughout the day. The real test will be when I finish the bottle, and see how I feel when I don't drink it for a few days!

Sam and Stu would like to give one Mom Squad Reader a chance to try Kyani for free. They will be giving away 4 items to four different winners:
  • One bottle of Kyani Sunrise juice
  • Burt's Bees sampler pack and a Cherokee Cove T-shirt,
  • a Cherokee Cove Sweatshirt and handmade walking stick, and
  • a jar of homemade granola.
If you'd like to win, just look over the awesome Cherokee Cove Summer Schedule, and leave a comment saying which event would interest you the most! As always, subscribers get an extra chance! (Click here to subscribe to email updates)

The contest will run through Sunday night, and winners will be announced Monday morning.

Freebie Friday: Ooh La La Manicures

We have a treat for you this week! Every mom could use a little pampering, right? Well, local mom, and Mom Squad reader Felicia Yarboro has just begun a new business that's like no other!

With "Ooh Lah Lah Manicures and Pedicures," Felicia (a licensed manicurist) will come to your home and pamper your hands and feet. Here's a little bit about Felicia and Ooh La La:

Felicia Yarboro has been in the spa industry since 1995, but she took a break from working outside the home in 2003 when her daughter Katherine was born. But now that Katherine is in school, Felicia has seen the fruition of a new twist on the spa world. Felicia knows how busy things can be as a mom juggling a marriage, community responsibilities, church, the management of a home, and the care of a child. She knows that for many moms, there is just no time for that much needed time of pampering in the spa. And that has led Felicia to create a new concept in spa services – something she calls “ooh lah lah.” Felicia cuts out the drive time and interruption of your schedule by bringing the luxury of spa services to your home. You can be the one to be pampered for a change, in the comfort of your own home, with reflexology treatments as well as spa manicures and pedicures that utilize all natural masks, exfoliators, and moisturizers. Felicia brings luxury into your world and around your schedule.

Felicia has been married to Jonathan Yarboro, one of the Campus Ministers at Appalachian State University, for 10 years. She holds a NC Manicurist license and certification in reflexology. Felicia has received training in North Carolina and Florida, and she brings thirteen years of experience to “Ooh Lah Lah.”

Momapalooza ~ Day 6: There IS such a thing as a free lunch!

Are we having fun yet? Enter all these giveaways until Sunday!
-----------------------------------------

On these cold, snowy days.. well... cold anyway, I love to get a great bowl of soup. There just aren't many places to get good soup in Boone, without spending a lot of time or money.

I can always guarantee that Rick, at Blimpie 105, will fill my craving for homemade soup. While the Blimpie franchise soups are great, Rick always has an assortment of homemade soups from his own recipes. On the menu recently are:
  • Creamy Potato
  • Cheesy Cream of Broccoli
  • Rick's Chicken Corn "Chowda" -my new favorite
  • Rick's Gumbo (w/chicken, shrimp, smoked sausage) - my all-time fave
  • Rick's Mother-in-Law's Brunswick Stew
  • Mexican Three-Bean
Rick is offering for one mom squad reader, a free "big kid's meal" (which is enough for most huge men I know). It includes any 6" sub, one side (maybe a bowl of soup!), a cookie and a drink. All you have to do is tell us your favorite new soup that you might like to see on the menu at Blimpie! And visit the Blimpie 105 website for a full menu and a coupon for a free side and drink!

--------------------------------------------
1. Leave a comment with your favorite soup on this post, including an email address where I can contact you. You can spell out the [at] and [dot] to avoid spambots. Example: singforhim94 [at] yah** [com]. Pretty soon, we will be moving to a format where you can leave me your email confidentially. If you left your email on a previous contest, that is sufficient.

2. If you are a new or existing subscriber, leave a second comment, saying "subscriber"! You get an extra chance. To subscribe, enter your email address in the top right hand of the page. (privacy policy)

3. If you email this contest to a non-subscriber, leave another comment, saying "email." You get yet another chance to win!

All the contests will run through the week, and will be closed on Sunday, Feb 24. The winners will be announced on Monday, Feb 25.
